About the Radio Station
Detailed History and Background
When it first hit South African airwaves back in 1986, operating under Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), Algoa FM was an entity dedicated to change. It ventured bravely into a broadcasting wilderness and provided listeners with music that spanned the styles from soothing pop melodies to electrifying rock anthems.
But Algoa FM was ambitious; not content with becoming just another voice among the crowd. Through its commitment to community involvement evident by their annual “Big Walk for Cancer” initiative and exciting charity events like Golf Days, they managed to craft a distinct identity that transcended their function as mere broadcasters.
Mission, Vision, and Values
Guided by the underlying mission statement “To be THE media authority leading public conversation AND initiatives that build active communities”, they’ve become more than just a radio station—they’re a friend who accompanies you throughout your day.
Their vision is “Creating happiness for everyone we touch”.
This vision embodies their primary directive – meeting their audience where they are most comfortable. They take pride in understanding what listeners want from their radio partner – good music choice or relevant information on happenings around them.
Their values stresses creating connections unrestricted by language or location barriers. With taglines “Your Music Your World” once followed by “We speak your language”, Algoa FM incorporates multiple levels of intimacy with every broadcast while ensuring an informed community.
