OFM Radio Station Known fondly as “The Sound of Your Life,” this station is more than just a voice in the background – it’s a good friend that’s been lighting up South Africa’s radio scene since 1986.

Date of establishment and history

Once upon a time on April 1, 1986, Radio Oranje kicked things off. But like any good story, there were plot twists and turns along the way. Adapting to ever-changing moods and tastes, they flipped the script and reinvented themselves to become the beloved OFM that listeners tune into today.

Type of radio station (e.g., commercial, community, public broadcaster)

Describing OFM as just another commercial radio station would be an understatement. It’s a one-stop shop for entertainment, music (everything from pop hits to nostalgic classics), news updates, lifestyle tips – you name it! All these elements come together in perfect harmony making it the go-to choice for listeners in Central South Africa.

Tagline or motto of the station if applicable

Detailed History and Background

Back in April 1, 1986, OFM was known as Radio Oranje. That’s when it first greeted South Africa with its broadcasting charm. But over the years, like a chameleon, it kept up with changing radio landscapes and its audience’s interests. A huge turn point?

Breaking out from Highveld Stereo they decided to go solo and pay more attention to listeners in Free State, North West, Northern Cape, and southern Gauteng. As a result, they managed to sculpt their very own identity being big on local culture and community vibe.
